The Chaos.
Critical data lived across 10+ third-party systems — each with its own API, authentication, rate limits, and data format — and none of it landed anywhere the team could reliably query.
Brittle extraction scripts ran on a server that needed constant babysitting. Duplicates, gaps, and silent failures meant the fintech team never fully trusted the numbers.
The System.
We built Janus — a serverless API extraction platform on AWS Lambda and Step Functions that pulls from every source system on an hourly schedule, then validates and lands each record in Snowflake.
Pydantic models enforce a strict schema on every payload, so malformed or drifting source data is caught before it reaches the warehouse — and the pipeline scales per source with zero servers to manage.

Execution Process.
01. Source Mapping
Catalogued all 10+ source APIs — auth, rate limits, schemas, and quirks — and defined the canonical model for the Snowflake warehouse.
02. Extraction Pipelines
Built per-source extraction in Python on AWS Lambda, orchestrated by Step Functions to run reliably every hour with retries and backoff.
03. Validate & Load
Enforced strict Pydantic schemas on every payload, then normalized and loaded clean, typed records into Snowflake.
04. Reliability & Monitoring
Added retries, alerting, and data-quality checks on every run, so the fintech team could finally trust their hourly numbers.
